What's the difference between green tea and Matcha powder?

When you have green tea leaves, you are only steeping the leaves and won't be able to benefit from all the nutrients it has to offer (unless you eat it!). Matcha powder is the entire leaf grounded into a fine powder. It has antioxidants that are great to fight free radicals, an amino acid called l'theanine that has calming properties and caffeine to keep you alert for your day. A super green tea!

Can I have too much Matcha?

While 1/2 tspn - 1 tspn is all you need to get the benefits of Matcha, there is only so much your body can absorb. One to two servings of Matcha per day is reasonable. But remember, keep everything in moderation.

What's different to yours and other Matcha powders?

We have done countless hours of tastings and research to find that a lot suppliers had been passing off poorer grades as "ceremonial". With poorer quality culinary grades that are yellow-green in colour, you lose the nutritional benefits that are offered in premium and ceremonial grades. Ceremonial grades are only for those serious tea drinkers and often advised that it is waste of money for cooking but they benefit from the full nutritional qualities (it is often compared drinking Ceremonial Grade Matcha to drinking Champagne in western culture). Our Premium Matcha is the best of both worlds. We believe that Matcha is like Wine - Cook with the matcha you drink with.

What's the best way to store Thea Matcha?

Keep in a cool, dry spot, sealed in an airtight container that you can recycle or reuse. We tins available in 30g and 100g.

Is your Matcha organic?

Yes! It is JAS (Japanese Agricultural Organic Standard) approved.

Can I purchase in bulk?

Sure thing! Please send us a message here or email hello@thea.co.nz
